Development of the Retail Pricing Information Guidelines

In April 2010, the AER commissioned the Wallis Consulting Group to undertake qualitative market research to obtain consumer feedback on a range of areas relating to the Guideline. A full report detailing this qualitative research program has been published on this website

In September 2010, the AER published a position paper and draft Guideline as part of a second round of preliminary consultation. The position paper set out the AER's preliminary preferred position on a range of issues. The draft Guideline set out how the AER’s preferred positions in the paper would apply to the presentation of standing and market offer prices by retailers. Submissions to the position paper and draft Guideline were sought from interested parties. The AER also held a stakeholder forum on 6 October 2010 in Melbourne (with video conferencing in other states) to discuss the position paper and further inform the development of the Guideline.

The AER used these earlier consultations to develop a notice of draft instrument and draft Guideline, which was released on 6 May 2011. These documents were developed and published in accordance with the retail consultation procedure set out in clause 173 of the Retail Rules.

On 12 September 2011 the AER released the Retail Pricing Information Guideline and Notice of Final Instrument.
