Energy emissions

The AER has no statutory or regulatory responsibilities in implementing, or reporting on, climate change policies. The ACCC’s role in relation to the carbon price is set out on the ACCC’s carbon representations web page.

Information on energy emissions is available from the Clean Energy Regulator website. The Clean Energy Regulator reports on greenhouse gas emissions, greenhouse gas projects, and energy use and production of businesses as part of its administration of the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting scheme. The Clean Energy Regulator also has responsibilities for the Carbon Pricing Mechanism, the Carbon Farming Initiative and the Renewable Energy Target.

AEMO publishes a NEM wide Carbon Dioxide Equivalent Intensity Index which calculates the emissions per unit of electricity (t CO2-e /MWh) generated on a sent out basis.

Further information on the Australian Government’s climate change policies can be found at the Clean Energy Future website.
