13 and 1300 numbers and costs
The cost of making telephone calls to numbers beginning with 13 and 1300 is often different from the cost of a local call.
The cost of a local call depends on:
- the telephone company that provides your fixed telephone service
- the local/long distance call plan that you have joined
The cost of a 13 or 1300 call from a fixed telephone service is determined by your telephone company and the contract/plan you have.
Calls made from a mobile may be charged at a timed rate. Before calling from a mobile phone, check with your provider to find out the price under your plan as you may have to pay more than the cost of a local call.

AER website subscription service
The AER has introduced a new self-managed subscription service. The service will enable targeted and more effective communication with our stakeholders. For example, if a stakeholder is interested only in retail issues, updates from the AER can be restricted to this area. Email notification will be provided whenever the AER updates information in the selected categories. Notification timing and format of the email alerts can be specified and subscription details changed at any time.

Retail Markets branch contact
The Retail Markets Branch is responsible for the AER's functions under the National Energy Retail Law, which commenced on 1 July 2012. This includes authorising retailers, implementing the retailer of last resort scheme, monitoring retail energy markets, enforcement and compliance in retail markets, approving hardship policies, and operating a retail energy price comparison website.
