Overview
The AER (Retail Law) Performance Reporting Procedures and Guidelines (Guidelines) set out the manner and form in which regulated entities must submit information and data to the AER relating to their performance under the National Energy Retail Law and National Energy Retail Rules (Retail Rules).
Retailers are required to submit templates to the AER in accordance with the Guidelines, via email to marketperformance@aer.gov.au.
The revised Guidelines require retailers to report additional data, including:
- Further detail about the retail market and market structure (particularly regarding customer contracts);
- Information on the roll out of smart meters as a result of the metering contestability regime which commenced on 1 December 2017; and
- Further information about customers experiencing payment difficulties (including in relation to payment plans, hardship programs and referrals to credit collection agencies).
Templates for retailer data collection
The AER collects data under the guidelines through the below templates. Recently, the AER has updated the template based on feedback from retailers. The new template has improved usability, particularly around error checking and for retailers with no customers. Please note that we will only accept the applicable template for the quarter(s) it is valid for.
Template version | Quarter(s) in force | Period in force |
---|---|---|
Version 3 | Up to Q2 2018-19 | June 2012 – December 2018 |
Version 4.1 | Q3 2018-19 | January 2019 – March 2019 |
Version 4.2 | Q4 2018-19 - ongoing | April 2019 – ongoing |
