AER releases new materials to support compliance with the Better Bills Guideline

Following publication of the Better Bills Guideline on 31 March 2022, the AER is today publishing two illustrative example bills and accompanying explanatory information to promote compliance with the guideline.

The materials draw on new consumer testing by the Behavioural Insights Team, which is also being published alongside the example bills.

We envisage these materials will assist retailers in understanding the requirements of the guideline.

Additionally, the AER is commencing consultation to make minor amendments to the guideline.

These amendments provide clarity on the better offer and self-read information requirements. They also provide flexibility to allow for a potential delay to the date retailers must comply with the new billing requirements, pending the outcome of a rule change proposal that is currently being considered by the Australian Energy Market Commission.

Stakeholders are invited to provide comments on these proposed amendments by 31 October 2022.
