AER releases September 2017 Quarterly Compliance Report: National Electricity and Gas Laws

On 1 December 2017 the AER published its latest Quarterly Compliance Report: National Electricity and Gas Laws.

The report summarises the AER’s compliance monitoring and enforcement activities under the National Electricity Law and the National Gas Law from 1 July to 30 September 2017.  It provides an overview of the findings from our investigations, targeted compliance reviews and projects undertaken in the quarter.

In this report we outline our expectations regarding compliance with critical obligations under the National Electricity Rules in preparation for the 2017/18 summer.  This is in view of supply events in the National Electricity Market (NEM) last summer and forecasts of tight conditions in the NEM this coming summer.  We also provide a summer preparations checklist and ask market participants to check their preparations against the identified National Electricity Rule obligations.

Through these quarterly publications we seek to inform businesses of obligations under the national energy laws and encourage a culture of compliance.  The AER’s Quarterly Compliance Reports seek to promote transparency and good industry practice across Australia’s wholesale energy sector.
