On 8 July 2022, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) accepted an application from Powerdirect to surrender its electricity retailer authorisation. Powerdirect was acquired by AGL Energy Limited on 19 February 2007 and it is intended that customers will be transferred to AGL.
The AER may decide to approve the surrender if the AER is satisfied that arrangements relating to the surrender will appropriately manage the transfer of any retail customers. Under section 105 of the National Energy Retail Regulations, the AER may also place conditions on the transfer of customers (in consultation with AEMO).

We are now seeking submissions from interested stakeholders on Powerdirect's surrender application by Friday 5 August 2022.
