Hexham to Tomago Pipeline was originally granted 5 year Category 1 and Category 2 non-scheme pipeline exemptions under Part 23 on 3 January 2018. On 30 November 2022, these exemptions were extended until 3 January 2028.
Gas pipeline regulation reforms to the National Gas Law and National Gas Rules were proclaimed in March 2023. Hexham to Tomago Pipeline's Category 2 exemption under Part 23 was taken to be a Category 1 exemption under Part 10 as it is a no third-party access pipeline.
