The AER has published its 2025 Rate of Return Annual Update paper, illustrating annual changes in market data for the energy network businesses we regulate.
The information presented in the paper supports substantive and constructive discussion with stakeholders in Rate of Return Instrument (RORI) reviews, which the AER conducts every four years.
The RORI specifies how the AER will determine the allowed rate of return on capital invested in regulated electricity and gas networks.
The RORI uses timely market data in its development. The latest data has been prepared in accordance with the 2022 RORI, which sets out the method used by the AER to determine the rate of return for regulated network businesses.
We began publishing annually updated information following the release of our 2018 RORI. In our 2022 RORI review, we committed to publishing annual updates on an ongoing basis. In August this year, we commenced our 2026 RORI review, a final decision for which is expected to be made in December 2026.
