On 7 July 2014, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) accepted an application from Brookfield Cogen Australia for an individual electricity exemption from the requirement to hold a retailer authorisation under the National Energy Retail Law.
This application was withdrawn prior to approval and a different legal entity, Brookfield District Energy (CP) Pty Ltd, applied for the individual exemption. The Brookfield District Energy (CP) Pty Ltd application was received on 19 September 2014.
