On 14 May 2025, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) released a final decision on the 2023−28 gas access arrangement variation proposal from AusNet Gas Services (AusNet).
Our final decision is to not accept AusNet’s variation proposal, and maintain our final decision made on 2 June 2023 for the 2023–28 access arrangement period.
We maintain our variation proposal draft decision position that AusNet did not justify its proposal to vary its access arrangement to recover more accelerated depreciation from customers due to the impacts of Victorian Government policy and regulatory changes.
In March 2025, AusNet submitted a response to our draft decision indicating that it accepted our draft decision to not accept its variation proposal and did not submit a revised proposal.
AusNet acknowledged our draft decision reasoning that the issues raised by its proposal can be better assessed in the context of its 2028–33 access arrangement proposal.
In reaching our final decision we have considered submissions received in response to AusNet’s proposal (received on 30 September 2024) and our draft decision.
