Today we commenced public consultation on the stage 1b contingent project application from ElectraNet for the Northern Transmission Project formerly known as Mid North South Australia Renewable Energy Zone Expansion.

A contingent project application outlines the amount of revenue a business seeks to recover from its customers to deliver part of a project. ElectraNet submitted its stage 1b contingent project application on 21 January 2026.

As part of its stage 1b application, ElectraNet is proposing $29.5 million ($nominal) of capital expenditure to deliver the proposed ‘early works’. This includes costs for stakeholder engagement, land use planning and acquisition, development and environmental approvals, project development and procurement activities.

Our role is to review the prudency and efficiency of the proposed costs within the stage 1b application to ensure consumers pay no more than necessary. We expect to make a decision on the application in the coming months.
