On 5 February 2026, the Minister for Climate Change and Energy announced a review of the governance arrangements of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
The review aims to ensure AEMO's governance arrangements remain fit for purpose now and into the future. On 10 March 2026, the AER provided a submission to the consultation. Our submission agrees that the matters outlined in the discussion paper capture key issues for this review and notes AEMO's expanding roles and the need for high levels of accountability and oversight to ensure transparency and public confidence in the system.
