In March 2026, the AER received information that a Queensland retailer had refused to register a customer as requiring life support on the basis that the customer was moving into a premises fitted with a PeakSmart air conditioning unit.
On 15 April 2026, we wrote to retailers and distributors in Queensland to:
- remind them of their obligation to register customers who require life support equipment
- confirm the AER’s position that the presence of a PeakSmart air conditioning unit does not remove or change life support registration obligations.
