The AER is seeking stakeholder feedback on our draft Market Monitoring Information Order MMIO-GAS-2026-01 (the draft Order) to collect information from wholesale gas service providers.
The draft Order includes information on the classes of persons to which the draft Order applies, the information required to be provided to the AER and associated due dates, and the reasons the AER requires this information.
The accompanying Explanatory Statement contains supporting information including how we have addressed stakeholder feedback to date and questions for stakeholder feedback.
This draft Order follows consultation on a previous draft Order (MMIO-GAS-2025-01) for similar information, in November and December 2024. We received comprehensive feedback during this previous consultation and, given the enduring nature of the Order, the AER decided not to make MMIO-GAS-2025-01 while we continued to consider the feedback. In May 2025, the AER announced this decision.
We are now consulting on MMIO-GAS-2026-01. In response to past feedback received on MMIO-GAS-2025-01, we have amended the proposed frequency and submission dates to reduce class member burden. The proposed submissions will be required annually on 31 March for the duration of the draft Order.
For reference, our Wholesale Market Monitoring and Reporting Guideline sets out our general approach to our expanded functions in monitoring and reporting on wholesale gas markets, and electricity and gas contract markets.
Consultation
We are currently seeking stakeholder feedback on the draft Order, with particular interest in views on:
- the clarity of data categories, requirements and classes
- the burden and costs associated with responding to the Order, and
- the proposed response due dates.
