The AER’s National Electricity Market (NEM) Readiness Guide (the guide) and checklist supports compliance in the wholesale electricity market, with a particular focus on reliability and system security.
The guide outlines the AER’s expectations for complying with a number of critical obligations under the National Electricity Rules (NER), while the checklist sets out tasks that may assist participants to achieve compliance.
This guide recognises the criticality of participants maintaining a focus on compliance with their obligations so they are prepared for, and can respond to, challenges as they arise.
The AER expects participants to understand their obligations under the NER and implement robust systems and processes to achieve compliance. Participants should use the NEM Readiness Guide to assist in this process.
These documents were first released in November 2022. The guide replaced the AER’s Summer Readiness Compliance Bulletin and checklist which had their genesis in assisting participants with operational challenges in summer.
The guide was updated in August 2025 to update the PASA compliance messaging in the guide following the AER’s publication of a standalone PASA Compliance Bulletin.
