On 18 March 2025, the inquiry was self-referred with the Parliament of NSW Legislative Assembly Committee on Transport and Infrastructure (the Committee) releasing a terms of reference (Infrastructure for electric and alternative energy source vehicles in NSW – Parliament of New South Wales).
The terms of reference requests that the Committee inquire into and report on infrastructure for electric and alternative energy source vehicles in NSW, including:
- funding and location of electric vehicle chargers or infrastructure for other potential energy fuel sources
- the viability of alternative energy sources for freight, heavy vehicles and other licenced vehicles in regional communities
- use of existing infrastructure and measures to ensure a competitive market, including 'ring fencing' policies
- measures to ensure the transition of workers from affected industries and industry standards; and
- any other related matters.
The AER made a submission to the terms of reference on 30 May 2025.
