Wallumbilla in Queensland is a major gas supply hub. As a pipeline interconnection point for the Surat-Bowen Basin, it links gas markets in Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria. It services industrial gas customers, LNG export facilities and gas powered generators, making it a natural point of trade and an ideal location for a gas trading exchange.
This figure is a summary of monthly on-market and off-market trading activity at the Wallumbilla hub. Off-market trades proceed under bilateral agreements and are excluded from AEMO’s netting and matching process. They are registered as a separate product and are not included in AEMO’s reference price calculations for the hub (as they do not reflect trades through the open exchange). This figure provides a monthly comparison of on-market and off-market trading by trade numbers and total volumes.
