On 30 June 2026, Essential Energy submitted a cost pass through application seeking to recover costs it expects to incur as a result of the varied licence conditions for the NSW Emergency Backstop Mechanism. 

Essential Energy is proposing to recover incremental revenue of approximately $58.5 million ($nominal) in the last two years of the current regulatory period. This will be in equal amounts of $29.3 million (smoothed, $nominal) in 2027-28 and 2028-29.
