The AER received a reference service proposal from AusNet Gas Services (AusNet) for the period 1 July 2028 to 30 June 2033. Under the NGL and the NGR, the AER has the function of reviewing and approving the terms of the proposal. Interested stakeholders are encouraged to consider the indicative dates for the key milestones in this review.

The AER received AusNet's reference service proposal on 1 June 2026.

Interested parties were invited to make a submission on AusNet's reference service proposal. Submission are now closed. We received one submission from LMS Energy.

On 1 October 2026, the AER made its decision on AusNet's reference service proposal. Our decision is to not approve the proposal . We consider it is not consistent with the regulatory requirements due to classification of the abolishment service as a reference service and the inclusion of no access (gas meter) as a service. Details are set out in the AER decision paper.

The next steps are for the AER to revise the reference service proposal, publish the revised reference service proposal, and to make a decision to give effect to the revised reference service proposal.
