Today the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) published the updated version of the Forecasting Best Practice (FBP) guidelines as the final step in a targeted review of the guidelines.
The FBP guidelines set out how the Australian Energy Market Operator must develop its forecasting practices for use in developing reliability forecasts and processes for the retailer reliability obligation and the Integrated System Plan (ISP) and associated updates.
The AER has reviewed the FBP guidelines to implement non-material changes that were identified in recent years. The review targeted improving the efficiency of compliance reporting processes that were identified during previous ISP cycles, along with implementing changes identified to align the guidelines with recent Australian Energy Market Commission rule changes.
On 25 March 2026, we commenced a targeted review of the FBP guidelines and published proposed amendments for consultation. The 4 week consultation period ended on 24 April 2026. We received 2 submissions that were considered in finalising the amendments to the FBP guidelines.
