The AER has published its annual Network performance report, providing an independent assessment of how electricity and gas networks are performing as Australia's energy system continues to evolve.
The report analyses the operational and financial performance of 25 electricity and gas network service providers regulated by the AER, tracking their network investment, expenditure, revenue and service delivery up to June 2025.
Our analysis shows total network revenues increased compared with the previous year for both electricity networks and gas distribution networks. However, these revenues remain significantly below their respective peaks in 2015.
For the first time, the report includes export service performance data for electricity distribution networks, offering new insights into how networks are supporting the growing number of customers exporting energy from rooftop solar and batteries.
By monitoring and reporting on network performance, the AER helps consumers, industry and governments understand how networks are responding to the energy transition and whether they are delivering services efficiently and in the long-term interests of consumers.
