The annual Network performance report 2026, is our third combined annual electricity and gas network performance report. This report, for the first time, includes export service performance data for electricity distribution networks, which was previously reported in separate Export services reports.
The report analyses the operational and financial performance of 25 electricity and gas network service providers regulated by the AER, tracking their network investment, expenditure, revenue and service delivery up to June 2025. Our analysis is focused on the provision of core regulated services. These are:
- Standard control services for electricity distribution networks,
- Prescribed transmission services for electricity transmission networks, and
- Haulage reference services for gas distribution networks.
This report also details the performance of electricity DNSPs in specifically providing export services to customers who have consumer energy resources, such as rooftop solar and batteries.
By monitoring and reporting on network performance, the AER helps consumers, industry and governments understand how networks are responding to the energy transition and whether they are delivering services efficiently and in the long-term interests of consumers.

- Operational performance datasets - sets out key operational performance metrics. There are separate datasets for electricity networks and gas networks. These are a continuation of our performance data publications that began in 2018 and cover regulatory years 2006 to 2025.
- Financial performance datasets - sets out our calculation and analysis of the profitability measures. There are separate datasets for electricity and gas networks, covering 2014 to 2025 and an illustrative model that uses proxy data to show how we calculate the return on regulated equity.
- Export services performance datasets – sets out the export services network performance metrics. These are a continuation of the export services network performance report that were previously published with the separate Export services report. This dataset covers regulatory years 2021 to 2025.
- Explanatory notes - detail our calculation and interpretation of the financial performance measures.
The accompanying datasets published alongside this report are provided in Microsoft Excel workbooks.
The report does not include any operational or financial data on the three gas transmission networks. We will report on these three gas transmission networks is the second half of the year.
