On 3 December 2024, Ergon Energy applied to the AER to renew its waiver for the Mareeba and Charters Towers depots to be treated as regional offices for the purposes of ring-fencing. Read more about the application here.
The AER consulted on Ergon Energy's ring-fencing waiver application and submissions to this consulttation closed on 7 May 2025. Submissions can be found here.
On 10 June 2025, the AER decided to grant a waiver to Ergon Energy from clauses 4.2.1(a), 4.2.2(a) and 4.2.3(a)i of the guideline to allow the Mareeba and Charters Towers depots to continue being classified as regional offices on the condition that it only applies to the provision of the following services:
- contestable metering services, including installation, testing, faults and repairs, and
- pole installation, replacement and repairs on customer property.
This waiver will expire on 30 June 2045, unless varied or revoked sooner.
