On 21 December 2022, Essential Energy submitted an application to the AER under clause 6.6.1 (a1)(5) of the National Electricity Rules for a positive pass through of costs related to the New South Wales North Coast flooding event that occurred in late February and March 2022. Essential Energy's application proposes to recover $3.8 million from electricity users through an increase in distribution prices in the remaining year of its current regulatory control period, that is, from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024.
