Transgrid operates and manages the high voltage electricity transmission network in NSW and the ACT, connecting generators, distributors and major end users. Its next five year regulatory control period commences on 1 July 2028 to 30 June 2033 (2028–33).
Under the National Electricity Rules (NER), Transgrid is required to submit its regulatory proposal to us by 31 January 2027. However, prior to that date, the NER requires us to review the current Framework and Approach (F&A) paper that applies to Transgrid and decide whether to amend or replace it.
On 14 November 2025, the AER released a Notice on whether to amend or replace the current transmission F&A paper.
On 19 December 2025, the AER decided to amend the F&A paper.
On 10 April 2026, the AER released its preliminary Framework and Approach paper.
